about us.

tl;dr

A mom and pop yarn studio operating out of our home studio in Philly and inspired by our family's Puerto Rican roots. At Woolen Boon, we make high quality hand dyed yarn radically accessible at an $18 price point. We believe color is an act of everyday liberation. We are here to bridge the gap between the diaspora and the island, providing the canvas para los que viven libre y en color.

our story:

rooted in culture, made in small batches

Welcome to Woolen Boon! We are a tiny, independent, mom and pop yarn studio proudly operating out of Philly (go birds, fuck ice, free palestine). What started back in 2016 in our dining room with just $500 from a tax return and a massive leap of faith has grown into a vibrant community of makers in stashes all over the world. I am still immensely grateful and humbled over this.

Our brand began with a simple philosophy: Life, knittery, and the pursuit of happiness (Vida, tejido, y la búsqueda de la felicidad). Today, that pursuit has evolved into a deeper celebration of our family's background. Reconnecting with my Puerto Rican roots is an active, ongoing journey. As a dyer and artist in the diaspora, picking up color is my way of speaking to my culture. We use Spanish expressions in our branding not out of perfect fluency, but out of a deep reverence for my ancestors, a calling to the energy of the island, and a fierce commitment to its future. On top of that, we spend a ridiculous amount of time obsessing over palettes so we can bring you hand dyed yarn that begs to be out of the skein and onto your needles. It's a heavy load but I think it's my calling to carry it. ;)

our creative manifesto:

live free in color

We refuse to live in a monochrome world, and we believe your knitting shouldn't either. To us, color is an act of everyday liberation. para vivir libre y en color. Our small-batch colorways are dyed to break the rules, celebrate individuality, and spark boundless creativity. There is no gatekeeping here, and there are no rigid rules to follow when it comes to knitting or color. Whether you are a master fiber artist or casting on your very first stitches, we give you the canvas to express exactly who you are, out loud and in full color.

our future

making art accessible to everyone

We believe a colorful life belongs to absolutely everyone. For years, we watched the rising costs of the fiber arts build financial roadblocks around a craft that is supposed to bring peace, joy, and community. We wanted to change that.

By shifting our studio to a dyed-to-order, monthly club, and limited updates model, we are proud to offer high-quality, artistically dyed skeins at an intentional $18 price point. We are knocking down the barriers to entry because creative freedom shouldn't be a luxury. Our ultimate, long-term mission is to use the growth of Woolen Boon to lift up Puerto Rican communities, bridging the gap between the diaspora and the island through accessible art.

We love what we do, we love our community, and we are so incredibly grateful to provide the canvas for your next masterpiece.

Para los que viven libre y en color - this is for you.
